Born on June 22, 1968 in Clermont-Ferrand, François Durif is an artist and writer.
Since graduating from the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris (1997), each of his ephemeral installations has led to the production of texts and in situ actions. His professional experiences outside the art world have become his preferred material, moving the figure of the artist into areas where he is not necessarily expected. He regularly writes about the work of his contemporaries and publishes his texts in art magazines (Livraison 6, Rhinoceros; Collection Beautés, Galerie Jean Fournier; journal de Flamme éternelle, Palais de Tokyo; #démoulétropchaud, Friville-Éditions).
For the past few years, he has favored oral narration and improvisation during walk-performances in urban counter-spaces, including the Père-Lachaise cemetery.
A literary resident at Villa Medici in 2022-2023, he seizes on the word “confetti” as a motif, with the intention of destroying part of his archives. To the gesture of writing, he now associates that of clearing away – a way of freeing life where it seemed imprisoned.
At Verticales Editions, he has published two stories, Vide sanitaire (2021) and Torno subito (2024).
