BACK IN PICTURES ON FLICKR

KINOSAPIENS, an exhibition on 80 years of Gentilly’s architectural, cinematographic, social and human history.

Some places have the ability to reveal the history of a city and its inhabitants.

Le Générateur, once a large local cinema, now a center for art and creation, is one such place. The building represents an important episode in local history, the very particular history of a public that has come to its walls from generation to generation to be entertained, to meet and to dream.

From its intense cinematic activity in the past, to its current programming dedicated to the multiple forms of contemporary artistic creation, the Kinosapiens exhibition represents a bridge between what the Gaîté Palace was for over 50 years and what the Générateur is today.

To celebrate this collective memory, Kinosapiens brings together archives, period photos and oral testimonies on the history of this great neighborhood cinema. Le Générateur is taking this opportunity to open the exhibition to contemporary artists working in the fields of theater, music, sound and video.

Through the eyes and creations of these artists, Kinosapiens questions all the documents on display and revisits the past: that of the town of Gentilly and its inhabitants, and the history of cinema and its development right up to the present day.
