We spoke earlier of Rob Mazurek’s appetite for junctions. This third stage in the combination, which links him this year to Sons d’hiver, shows another kind of juxtaposition. That of Sound and Vision combined. A world premiere, this new form in Mazurek’s career takes a close look at a single idea gauged from multiple, complementary angles. Fascinating. The result is an installation-performance that embraces you. Hallucinating in the original sense of the word. But Rob Mazurek goes even further.

For this project, undoubtedly his most ambitious to date, he imagines The Book Of Sound as a multimedia space opera confronting acoustic instruments and electronics with the fictional double of cornetist Helder Velasquez Smith, who has come to accelerate the sonic, visual and textual research of a fascinating composer who has definitely left Chicago for the cosmos.
