Is the Franco-German tandem on the fritz? On the global geo-political stage, perhaps. At Sons d’hiver and in 2019, that’s far from the case. The arrival of Coax is in keeping with the tradition of headstrong groupings that have swarmed throughout the festival’s history. This carte blanche evening will culminate in three of Coax’s founding members, Desprez, Viard and Joussein, inviting the talented percussionist Lucie Antunes, as well as Peter Brötzmann, another historic expressionist and music-political network enthusiast. It should blow hard, but never without reason. And Fantasia Nel Dessert, a two-headed project with radically electronic tendencies, proposed by Simon Henocq and Luca Ventimiglia of Collectif Coax. Founded in 2008 by musicians, Coax is a cooperative where music is reworked a hundred times, Do It Yourself style. Circumstantial situationism, voluble expressionism, ‘jack-of-all-trades’ facundity, we could easily extend the list of common points between the two entities debating for this concert.
