Heart of the Matter is French for “the course of things”.
h o m, its acronym, brings together a dancer-builder, a musician and a sculpture to be assembled. Like a mobile, or perhaps more like a stabile, the sculpture is anchored to the floor by a central point.
In the beginning, the space is littered with rough objects made of wood or metal. A dance of construction begins. The dancer-manipulator lifts and assembles the objects, with strength and fragility.
A tension is created. Although ready to collapse at any moment, the sculpture takes on a physical form. Movement flows between the mobile and the dancer. The exhibition of the body and the work of art plays on a craftsman’s elaboration. The body doesn’t show that it’s dancing; it’s the driving force behind the sculpture. At other moments, it deviates from this meticulous work of assembly to find its own freedom, its own center of gravity.
In balance, dancer and musician face “the course of things” between power and chance, in the course of a movement that tests its own limits.

Là, se délasse Lilith…
Marinette Dozeville takes her inspiration from Lilith, a character from Hebrew tradition who no longer appears in biblical texts. She is said to be the first woman, Adam’s true equal, made like him from clay. This censure makes her an emblematic incarnation of the rebellious woman, free and in control of her own flesh and origins.
This Lilith strides across the stage in a primal, leaping, sensual and organic choreography. Naked, she turns her body into a body politic. Literally and figuratively freeing herself from her straitjacket, she leads us to question the representation of the female body. The censorship and self-censorship it generates, the autonomy and power it unleashes, and above all the feminine cliché maintained by our patriarchal societies.
Supported by the diabolical rhythm of Uriel Barthélémi‘s music, Marinette Dozeville throws herself uncompromisingly into this character, driven by a formidable energy, shaking up our standards and a priori.
