Prières pour un monde qui brûle / Festival Jerk Off / Chams Barkaoui, Amenallah Atrous

As part of the 2026 Mediterranean Season (Institut français)

“An Olive Tree Neither of the East Nor of the West” explores the possibilities of reappropriation and creativity within Muslim ritual practices. Based on a proposal by Inès Geoffroy, artists Chams Barkaoui and Amenallah Atrous draw on the spiritual traditions of Islam and attempt an experience of collective transcendence. Inspired by the structure of a Sufi ceremony, this performance unfolds in a space-time constructed from gestures, voices, and forms of hospitality. Through a queer interpretation that shifts the perspective, this space opens up new ways to navigate spiritual legacies, extend their gestures, and create a sense of community.”

Featuring Myriam Bahaffou and Saphir Belkheir.
