Geneviève Matthieu is an artist duo formed in Rouyn-Noranda (Quebec, Canada) in the late 1990s. Through performances, installations, videos, concerts, and poetry, the duo creates collective representations and staged social scenes inspired by art and life. Geneviève Matthieu has presented its work at numerous exhibitions and events in Canada, Europe, and Japan, notably at the Musée d’art de Joliette, Usine C (Montreal), the Fonderie Darling (Montreal), the 7a*11d festival (Toronto), the Centre Wallonie-Bruxelles (Paris), La Capella (Barcelona), and the Festival Actoral (Marseille). Nominated for the Contemporary Art Prize at the Musée national des beaux-arts de Québec (2018), the duo was shortlisted for the Sobey Art Award (2023). Matthieu passed away on February 4, 2025, from an aggressive form of cancer. Geneviève Matthieu’s work continues.
