Re/generative performance explores a collective relationship to a memory of performance gestures, based on fifteen years of artistic actions carried out within Le Générateur, archived on the “Performance Sources” platform. What happens to this living memory when it is processed like statistical data by artificial intelligence? How is it replayed from the latent space of data? How can a group of young performers rediscover, through this “noise”, an embodied, situated relationship to the gestures that took place in this place? What meaning circulates from one generation to the next, despite the formatting imposed by computational generativity? Faced with the automatic recomposition of instructions delivered in real time, the artists scrutinize the signs sent beyond the datas, to inscribe them in an incalculable relationship, between body, space and objects.

Maurice Broizat is an artist, choreographer and teacher at ESAAA. Trained in contemporary dance, he entered the field of performance in New York and then Los Angeles, where he collaborated for over six years with Rachel Rosenthal. His practice developed in a transdisciplinary way, combining body art, scenic writing and critical thinking. Back in France, iel founded the Love Labo company in 2015.

David-Olivier Lartigaud is a researcher, curator and practitioner. He is a professor at ESAD Saint-Étienne and Ensba Lyon, where he is director of the Unité de Recherche Numérique en Art & Design common to both schools.

David Zerbib is a philosopher and teacher at ESAAA, where he coordinates the project “Re/generative performance, somapolitics of the common”. His research focuses on performance and performativity in the contemporary arts.
