Born in 1983 in Ambilly, France, Jérémy Chevalier lives and works in Geneva.
Jérémy Chevalier’s work blends performance, sound art, and installation. In particular, he addresses the issues of stage presence and the spectacular, drawing on inventions often marked by DIY techniques and the repurposing of objects. One of the questions that runs through his work is: “Can a recording replace a live performance?” This theme can be found in his piece Scratched Record, in which he plays a scratchy vinyl record.
This reflection gradually led him to explore the concept of the archive, notably with the piece Concrete Music (vinyl records cast in concrete), followed by a whole series of concrete casts. These pieces on the imprint seek to capture the sub-thin, to reveal subtle traces, such as the indentation of a pen on paper or the crumpling of sheets in casts of billboards, revealing only the medium of the event announcements.
His affinity for DIY culture and his passion for science then led him to explore technology, and more specifically the way it shapes our perceptions, narratives, and actions. This theme, always approached with humor and a twist, has become central to his performative work. Among his most notable pieces are Chaosphonie (an automated one-man band), Version bêta (a lecture on robotics conducted alongside a robotic Siamese twin), Release Candidate (a popular science show), and more recently, Speaker Prélude (a piece featuring a loudspeaker).
At the same time, he has developed a unique approach to field recording. Going against the standard practice of using expensive microphones to record in a neutral or realistic manner, he seeks to subvert this logic. In the piece *Il ne reste plus qu’à danser!*, for example, microphone capsules are placed under his shoes: he records what happens beneath his feet—the point of contact between his body and the ground—a form of “geographical acoustics” of his position in space.
Alongside this rather conceptual artistic practice, Jérémy Chevalier also develops poetic work. Since 2019, he has been presenting *Spirale Névrose*, a solo performance consisting of poetry readings, songs, and performed actions. This project evolves through ideas, texts, and experiments. He is currently preparing the publication of a collection of his poems with Ripopée, scheduled for release in spring 2026.
