Festival Performance

[ frasq ] 13ème édition

A privileged moment for sharing and reflecting on performance art, the [ frasq ] meeting has been dedicated since 2009 to creations “on the edge”, lending itself to risk-taking and open to all artistic forms, as long as they upset the lines. Bringing together more than 50 artists for 8 events this year, it’s an opportunity to create unlikely frictions between disciplines, genres, audiences and generations.

EDITO

Since 2006, Le Générateur has offered performance art a fitting setting, a place with minimal scenic and temporal constraints, a space where it can express itself.
After 14 years of festival, questioning the future of performance art now seems apropos. Has it evolved or changed? Are we now better able to define it? By regularly trying to grasp it, isn’t performance slipping even further through our fingers? Its ability to draw on reality, to draw inspiration from immediate contexts, gives it a head start in today’s creative world: the ability to act assertively in a singular geographical and temporal dimension. An act of resistance, a political act? In any case, it acts in the present time and with others, disregarding from the outset any immediate commercial logic.

Act of resistance, an act of politics?

More concretely, this 13th edition of [ frasq ] was built this year with a greater sense of urgency, as friendships, chance encounters and the vibrations of the moment dictated. It’s an intensity that lends itself well to performance and to the blossoming of new partnerships (with Le Lavoir Numérique, the Gentilly media library and other local players). Once again, we’ll be offering a number of exciting cartes blanches, collective performances, proposals for public spaces and the start of a radio program dedicated to performance. So let’s fan the flames of performance together, so that it can continue to break new ground and invent new possibilities… And if it proves capable of fighting back and resisting a certain ambient normativity, [ frasq ]’s gamble will once again be won!
