La Nòvia is a collective based in Haute-Loire that brings together professional musicians living across a wide area (Haute-Loire, Puy-de-Dôme, Rhône, Gard, Hérault, and Hautes-Alpes). This collective is a place for reflection and experimentation around traditional and/or experimental music. The diversity of its members—musicians, graphic designers, videographers, sound technicians—creates a strong dynamic and aesthetic coherence.
In this new creation, the collective La Nòvia takes on pieces by composer Conlon Nancarrow written for the player piano. The rhythmic processes and timbral interplay at work in Nancarrow’s music had a profound impact on Guilhem Lacroux and Yann Gourdon, who decided to transpose and arrange some of his studies for La Nòvia’s instrumentarium.
The program is completed by a commission from electronic musician and sound artist Jessica Ekomane, who has created pieces that resonate with her own work, the identity of the collective, and the work of Conlon Nancarrow.
