Rumbles, very low frequency, drone, erosion… An evening where performers and musicians push to the extreme their research into the relationship between sound and matter.

Désastre is a new creation by musician and performer Leandro Barzabal. This first broadcast is followed by the sound performance Les vaisseaux du chaos by musician Eric Cordier in duet with dancer Elsa Ferret.

Leandro Barzabal hails from Argentina and has been active in musical experimentation since 2001. His performative approach to sound has earned him a prominent place in the Parisian experimental, improvised and noise scene, where his concerts oscillate between physical (and sometimes brutal) performance and electroacoustic composition with DIY electronic instruments.

Already at Le Générateur at the invitation of the collective and label Abri Catalog in December 2022, Leandro Barzabal now takes his research into the relationship between sound and matter even further with this new creation, working with raw, poor materials, which he puts to the test of a sound device absent from view.

Starting from an obsession with pure frequencies, balances, transductions and decay, sound is then made visible through erosion, crumbling, deterioration. In Désastre, noise reveals the source.

This sound and performative work will be performed and broadcast for the first time on the l’Acouspauvrium sound system: an apocryphal and unfaithful sound diffusion system that modifies sound and, in turn, is transformed by it.

Traditional music practiced in 19thth century Brittany on Midsummer’s Eve, bassin ringing is performed by two with a copper basin, a kitchen utensil dedicated to the preparation of festive banquets, activated by rushes used as bows.

Untuned, with no apparent rhythm or melody, the pond bell produces only whirring, drone music, atonal and noisy before its time.

For Les vaisseaux du chaos, Eric Cordier is accompanied by dancer Elsa Ferret and takes hold of a dozen copper and brass basins, whose artisanal manufacture by hammering or brassware produces a sound close to the gong or gamelan. With a percussive, dance-based approach, the two performers turn them into a unique dance and performance tool.
