Frédéric Lecomte and Stéphane Lecomte, a duel of artists on the same common ground speak for themselves. You might call them tinkerers, like two adepts of recycling, but these two jacks-of-all-trades don’t recycle, they stage.
By treating all the pieces in the exhibition – drawings, videos, installations, miniatures, casts, etc. – on an equal footing, what we see is neither an installation nor an exhibition of objects, but the sculpture of an exhibition. They transform the place of display, scaffolding the space as one scaffolds a plan, building a counter-power, erecting walls as one erects palisades to better install oneself behind the scenes. By (de)partitioning the Générateur enclosure, they define their own playground for their actions, and bring into play a landscape that is becoming mechanized, industrialized, and more open… to ultimately “make a world”.
“The pair’s reunion would suggest a duel in the shade of a corral, with a decor planted from Spain, and by way of delicacy: spaghetti for battlefields. Not so, as Lecomte)s( deploy their scope on the very notion of exhibition […].” Frédéric Lecomte and Stéphane Lecomte
