Pierre-Feuille-Ciseaux is an art festival organized by the Qrators collective, bringing together young Ukrainian, Russian and Belarusian artists in Paris from November 13 to 22, 2015. On November 21, they gather at the Générateur for an evening of performances.
There’s a veritable breeding ground of young, independent, talented and courageous artists in this part of the world today. Beyond the Russian-Ukrainian conflict that is tearing this region apart, artists continue to express themselves at all costs, creating offbeat, resolutely committed works. Post-Soviet performance art: what is it? Apart from Pussy Riot and Femen (more media activists than artists), we don’t know much about this art form… Post-Soviet performance art brings together a generation of young artists from the countries of the former Soviet bloc (Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, among others) who use the medium of performance – a skilful blend of theater, visual arts and video – as a tool for committed artistic expression. These artists devise innovative, passionate projects to describe and decry the society around them: politics, religion, the place of women, the weight of history. Often with little means but total commitment, post-Soviet performers invent an original and abundant artistic language. The aim of the Pierre-Feuille-Ciseaux project is to invite these artists to express themselves outside their own country, to engage in artistic collaborations that transcend borders.
On November 21, 2015, 15 artists from Ukraine, Belarus and Russia will come together at Le Générateur to present artistic and political performances, giving French audiences the chance to discover another face of this Eastern Europe in the throes of change.
