RECIPROCAL is a viewing experience that thwarts the usual codes of the exhibition by using unexpected formats, materials and hanging methods. Bernard Bousquet paints on huge rolls of fabric, which he unfurls from floor to ceiling like worlds populated by shapes and colors. His paintings, made up of a chaos of lines, dots and shapes, cultivate even more indeterminacy, sometimes to the point of evanescence, thanks to a silkscreen process of multiple overprints in which he doesn’t hesitate to multiply the technical hazards in a controlled manner – but not always! Nothing in his XXL-scale, multi-dimensional installation is objectively recognizable, yet everything seems familiar.
By inviting dancers and musicians into his installation, the artist challenges them to match the rhythm of his painting.
