” From the volume of the Generator, we’ll make a playground, with sounds, streaks, silences, bursts of voices, coming and going between the two, each at his workbench. Armed with a hammer and a cookie cutter, I’ll destroy letters and handwritten pages, commenting aloud on what I’m perforating; while Timothée, with his console, his instruments and his scattered microphones, may cut me off, offer me a tune – something to sing, something to dance to – or show me the way out, so that I can continue my soliloquy outside. We’ll make our own Gilles Deleuze’s formula when he evokes his meeting with Félix Guattari : “There were only two of us, but what mattered to us was not so much working together, as this strange fact of working in between.”

François Durif

The press talks about Torno subito:
Le Monde des livres, Tiphaine Samoyault (October 17, 2024)

Extract from Torno subito:

” On my transbahutement to Italy, I took with me : sisters, friends, imaginary lover, father, mother, and their sleeping cancer, the threat of death at any moment, boxes of books, blank notebooks, stuffed filing cabinets, traces of past life, handwritten notes never reread, piles of papers I wanted to destroy, boxes filled with cut-out images, typescripts of which I would retain only a few snippets, before reducing everything to confetti and seeing them scattered before my eyes.

François Durif

Born on June 22, 1968 in Clermont-Ferrand, François Durif is an artist and writer.

Since graduating from the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris (1997), each of his ephemeral installations has led to the production of texts and in situ actions. His professional experiences outside the art world have become his preferred material, moving the figure of the artist into areas where he is not necessarily expected. He regularly writes about the work of his contemporaries and publishes his texts in art magazines (Livraison 6, Rhinoceros; Collection Beautés, Galerie Jean Fournier; journal de Flamme éternelle, Palais de Tokyo; #démoulétropchaud, Friville-Éditions).

For the past few years, he has favored oral narration and improvisation during walk-performances in urban counter-spaces, including the Père-Lachaise cemetery.

A literary resident at Villa Medici in 2022-2023, he seizes on the word “confetti” as a motif, with the intention of destroying part of his archives. To the gesture of writing, he now associates that of clearing away – a way of freeing life where it seemed imprisoned.

At Verticales Editions, he has published two stories, Vide sanitaire (2021) and Torno subito (2024).

Timothée Quost

Trumpeter, improviser & composer, Timothée Quost has been pursuing a career with international reach for several years.

An adventurous musician, his musical research stands at the crossroads of genres, clearing sound zones blending contemporary music, free jazz, experimental music, jazz, sound art…. He can be heard solo, proposing music based on close amplification of the trumpet, in his ensemble LIKEN founded with conductor Léo Margue, or in various formations ranging from duo to quintet.

Alongside tours taking him to the four corners of Europe, Timothée Quost has been committed for the past ten years to championing the dissemination of creative music to a wide audience, with an emphasis on rural areas. In addition to the VIF evenings, which for the past 10 years have offered an evening dedicated to musical creation in a small Burgundy village, Timothée Quost runs the Festival des Bruits de la Tête, a festival of all kinds of music, taking place on the Cézallier plateau in the Cantal region of France. This biennial event combines creative music with more traditional forms (classical music, chanson, world music, brass band, etc.) and is accompanied by sustained cultural action with local schools, colleges and music schools.

At Le Générateur, he performs the improvised duet performance Torno subito with author François Durif on December 19, 2024: more info.
