On the day of the opening of the exhibition The Walls, le Cneai – a friendly, neighboring venue – is organizing with Le Générateur a day of scripted conferences, a way forLe Générateur to foreshadow the launch of Performance Sources – a database dedicated to performance archives – scheduled for January 2023.Fol conférence marks a first partnership between the two structures and coincides with the closing of [frasq] 2022. Lefêvre Jean-Claude, guest artist at The Walls exhibition, will present one of his works at Générateur.

for the duration of the exhibition at Cneai.

Fol Conférence is a one-day festival of thought and sensibility.
Between sense and theory, six scripted lectures will be presented on October 16, 2022 at the Cneai as the opening of the exhibition The Wall and the closing of the festival [ frasq ]. Theorists and artists will produce both a scenographic seminar and an audience in search of sensory knowledge. Here, we move away from the artificial hierarchy decided by stage and microphone, in an attempt to create an autonomous, non-authoritarian sharing of knowledge, which passes through the body, sound, image, poetry, as much as text.

Le Cneai and Le Générateur, respectively involved in editorial and performative practices, are partners in this artistic adventure that since the 60s has pushed artists to experiment with autonomous, non-market forms of art creation and distribution; to shake up artistic disciplines and specializations in a bid for freedom from market-imposed object standards.
As part of a common approach, the two spaces open up to lively artistic practices and undisciplined forms: performance and publication. The idea here is to reflect together on that history of art that is played out outside, one that experiments formally, mixing knowledge and sensibility.

About Performance Sources

Since its creation in 2006, Le Générateur has assembled a substantial archive of photographs, videos and other documents. This collection reflects a specific moment in the history of performance art in France, and as such, the Générateur has – with the support of the Fondation de France – carried out a research program dedicated to performance art and its archives. Entitled Performance Sources, it is intended to result in an online database aimed at a wide audience of scientists and interested parties alike. Its official launch is scheduled for January 2023.
Performance Sources also aims to disseminate and promote performance archives from other venues. The Cneai has thus become a partner in the project.

About the Cneai

The Cneai is an art center dedicated to the artistic experience, to a history of art related to that of the object. It develops creation and exhibition programs, research, cultural rights, residencies and collections. Located in the Cité internationale universitaire de Paris, it also has the Maison flottante residence docked on the Seine.
For the past 25 years, it has been developing a research and collection program on editorial and performative artistic practices; non-dominant practices that place autonomous art players at the center, in turn publishers, artists, musicians, authors, researchers and distributors, in a free play between cultural disciplines.
Le Cneai is supported by the Ministère de la CultureDrac Ile de France, the Région Ile-de-France, the Ville de Paris, the Cité international universitaire de Paris. It is associated with the DCA and TRAM networks.
