Le Non_Jazz

Non_Jazz is a series of DIY, traveling concerts focused on underground sound practices that are more or less unclassifiable, unusual, and/or “shady.”&
It supports musicians, non-musicians, and artists exploring the boundaries of sound, music, and non-music.

COASTER PINE

“Children of the Forest play emotionally resonant hymns to the human experience.”

Gaute Granli: vocals, acoustic and electric guitars
Moritz Finkbeiner : vocals, acoustic guitar, bass, synth
Romain Simon: vocals, percussion

A new project by Gaute Granli (Rump State, Firmaet Forvoksen… ), a unique and unclassifiable guitarist and sound alchemist, a prodigious creator of a form of psychedelic, deconstructed “post-outer-pop,” blended with electronic folk featuring erratic loops and incongruous breaks and transitions.

To introduce this new project (  ” … it’s almost like folky singer-songwriter stuff  ” ), he has teamed up with two other leading figures of the European DIY underground:  Moritz Finkbeiner (Metabolismus…) and Romain Simon (Bâton XXL, Carte Noire, Headwar; Me Donner…).

AUTOREVERSE

Nina Garcia on electric guitar and Arnaud Rivière on “prepared mixing boards & repaired turntables” ” (but not only that!)

Uncut attacks, amplified scrap metal, captured feedback, provoked randomness, melodies that drop in but don’t stick around, rhythmic sketches and unapologetic moments of beauty, constructed and fractured textures, counterpoints to the melody… Inside out and right side up: file this under energy-improvisation-noise, with a high-voltage edge!

KOLE GALBRAITH

A Native American musician and sound artist, originally from Wenatchee, Washington, now based in Seattle after living in Germany, Mexico, and Austria. His compositions are rooted in the Indigenous experience and influenced by Salish folklore as well as musique concrète, free jazz, and metal. They take the form of brief, frenetic sound improvisations or long narratives woven from continuous sounds andfield recordings.

In live performances, he prioritizes spontaneity in a dialogue with the architecture of the performance space. Beyond his solo work, he is a member of the psy-jazz duo Coyote Teeth; he has collaborated with musicians such as Lori Goldston, Greg Kelley, Warren Realrider, Chloe Alexandra Thompson, Catherine Guesde, Patrick Wurzwallner, Maja Osojnik, Morher, and Noel Kennon, and has released albums on the labels Obscure & Terrible, SIGE, and Titania Tapes.

GIL KUNO

Through meticulous social conditioning, the mind is led to think according to predefined patterns. Gil seeks to redirect the flow of thought away from these structures that society teaches us to erect.
In his work—through a plethora of projects and a variety of themes and methodologies (random systems / chance-based operations, heightened perception, subverted reality, or the reinterpretation of everyday experiences)— he seeks to free the audience from thinking structured by established paradigms, by shifting such  natural activity from its usual context, thereby revealing a dimension of metaphorical absurdity—previously concealed—within the very ordinary patterns that present themselves to our gaze.

He has collaborated with artists as diverse as Eye Yamantaka (Boredoms), Yoshimi (Boredoms, OOIOO), Battles, Vincent Gallo, Ken Ishii, Tatsuya Yoshida, Carl Stone, Alec Empire, Steve Albini, Cristian Vogel, Zbigniew Karkowski, Merzbow, GX Jupitter Larsen (The Haters), Nisennenmondai, Christian Galarreta, Joseph Hammer, and Patric Catani (EC8TOR).
