Since its creation in 2006, Le Générateur has assembled a substantial archive, comprising several thousand photographs, videos and documents. This collection reflects a moment in the history of performance art in France.

Thanks to support from the Fondation de France, Le Générateur has been working since 2018 on a database (a website) dedicated to performance and its archives entitled Performance Sources.

To celebrate its online launch Le Générateur opens its doors from January 27 to 29, 2023 around meetings, roundtables, installations, photo exhibitions, performances and reactivations of performances. Researchers, art historians, critics, all the partners of Performance Sources and over fifty artists will be present to collectively mark the launch of this major project.

Thirty artists simultaneously share the space of the Générateur and propose a form of living exhibition in which they are invited to play with notions of filing, archiving, museum-type conservation by affixing, or not, one or more labels to their current action(s): date, title of work. The present of the performance immediately becomes an archive. The codes used to name an archive or a past work are here joyfully upended.
