Marked by the striking happenings of Pierre Pinoncelli since the sixties, Virgile Novarina pays tribute to this artist with a documentary.

This biographical film traces the career of the ” hors-l’art-loi ” artist best known for the ritual murder of a pig in Coaraze, the red-paint attack on André Malraux, the Société Générale hold-up in Nice, right up to the finger he cut off publicly with an axe in Colombia.

To make his film, Virgile Novarina conducted his own investigation and improvised himself as an amateur detective, looking for witnesses to all of Pinoncelli’s acts. After several years of research in France and Colombia, he was able to bring together some twenty witnesses in his documentary, including a museum guard, a photographer, two gallery owners, two art critics, several artists, a lawyer, a policeman and a CRS.

This film is an opportunity to appropriate a part – and not the least – of the history of performance art. The provocative acts of Pierre Pinoncelli, remind us of what performance can be capable of and how much it has to do with reality and ” the more than living “.

The exhibition of a selection of the artist’s works, (collection of Virgile Novarina) and a discussion after the film screening, will evoke Pierre Pinoncelli’s unique place in art history. This look back, participates in that posed by the Performance Sources website created and put online by the Générateur in January 2023.
