Sillages / 39° is a two-day itinerary with bivouac guided and led by landscape-planner Jens Denissen and writer Maëlle Tardivel through the places, stories and waters of the right bank of Choisy-le-Roi.Through a polyphony of fictional and documentary narratives, this journey evokes floods and sporting gestures, speaks of bodies mingling with water and the efforts required for sand extraction, site development and bird protection. Crossing land and water, on foot and by boat, it’s also a way of becoming part of the territory’s wakes, of becoming one with the environments we inhabit.

Practical information

The event is designed as a two-day experience, with an overnight stay on site. However, it is possible to participate in only part of the itinerary.

Thus, you can sign up for 3 different options:

Detailed sequence

The itinerary starts on Saturday morning at 9:30 am at the Créteil-Pompadour RER D station. All gear and equipment needed for the bivouac will be transported by car to the bivouac site. The distance covered on Saturday is around 12 km, and the hike is punctuated by numerous breaks.

The evening and bivouac take place south of the Parc Interdépartemental des Sports de Choisy-Paris, near the Base nautique. During the evening, meals and drinks are organized on site and accessible to all. Remember to bring cash.

An artistic wake is scheduled by the lake with Géométries and La Cour des contes.

For those who have bivouacked, the itinerary continues on Sunday May 19, after a breakfast offered to all participants and until 12:30 pm. The group will then walk back to Créteil-Pompadour station.

Schedule for artistic wake
Saturday, May 18, 8-10:30pm

Folk, experimental, acoustic duo

The second opus of Geometries unwinds the magnetic tape to link the perceptible world to the invisible. The encounter unfolds into the unknown, hypnotic, between songs, echoes and circular rhythms. Future normality dances between two mirrors that blend their reflections. more info: https://lesoreillesdesaturne.bandcamp.com/album/nebuloasa

Performed reading

Water travels, water transforms, water carries away. Whether lake, sea or simple puddle, around water, and sometimes under it, live creatures of all kinds: rock-women, bird-men or even narcissistic flower. For the duration of a bivouac under the stars, close your eyes and let yourself be carried away by the simple pleasure of listening to stories, told by La Cour des Contes.

Métamorphe is a series of performances loosely inspired by Métamorphoses by Ovid. It’s the story of a storyteller who transforms herself on stage, of a character who takes control of the narrator. For this public site outing, spectators embark on a journey to Greece in the footsteps of the sea monster Medusa.

La Cour des Contes is a collective of young storytellers whose mission is to help their generation rediscover the art of storytelling. On the stage of a theater or on the cobblestones of Paris, in the halls of a museum or on a festival night, La Cour has but one goal: to participate, with you, in the re-enchantment of the world. + info: https://www.courdescontes.com/

Since June 2014, Le Voyage métropolitain questions, explores and reveals the territories of the metropolis. Exploratory and collective walks, an attention to what surrounds us, but also the sharing of impressions and knowledge, form an experimental approach situated between art, urbanism, ecology and geography in order to actively contribute to the construction of a territorial narrative based on in situ experience.

In 2024, Jens Denissen & Maëlle Tardivel are organizing two walking itineraries around the urban territory of the Greater Paris Metropolis (in Gentilly and Choisy-le-Roi) with the Générateur, as part of La Métropolitaine, the MGP’s international contemporary art event.
